I had lunch with a friend the other day who recently had a
little girl. As a proud parent, there
were plenty of pictures to show me and just the giddy excitement of being a
proud parent. You can already tell that
this little girl had this guy wrapped around her tiny little finger. It made me think back to when my daughter,
Madison, was born and the almost 21 years that have passed since that night.
There is something so special about having a little girl. I was just like my friend with my little girl just having me wrapped around her finger. She was cute, happy and the sweetest thing. Very loving and always loving to do things with me. I taught her some of the more important things in life like eating pizza on Saturday morning while watching Aladdin. Now, there many delusional individuals out there that think that their little girl is the best ever. I am not going to debate it, but I am here to tell you that I must have done something right in a previous life for me to have a daughter like Madison. She is the total package. She is smart, athletic, beautiful, intelligent, fun and a better person than I can imagine ever being. She has a tremendous work ethic. She can make friends with anyone and lights up any room she walks into.
Since those days of watching cartoons we have done many things together ranging from snow boarding (nice enough to hang back with me), to skydiving, to Broadway plays and most recently to running with the bulls. Now there is nothing good about watching your little girl grow up into a beautiful woman. You start seeing guys that start doing double takes. Guys that start eyeballing her from across the room. Guys that I want to go punch right in the neck!
As I have told her, there is going to come a day that a guy comes along. A guy who I already I don’t like, even though I probably have not met him. A guy who will take her away from me. Until that day comes, I plan to continue to experience new things with my little girl. After all, she still has me wrapped around her finger.
